Actually the way things are going and more and more people are putting their videos on to DVD's it might be just as easy to go out and buy a dual deck that will do this. They are not that expensive, my Go Video cost a bit more then they do now as I bought it when they first came out, but my Panasonic was a bit over $200. They also work as regular "Tape" decks, that is you can tape a DVD from your TV like any normal DVD player, set the timer and it tapes. So, it has a dual purpose. The copyright protection on the video tapes is bypassed at this point in time. However, the copyright protection on the DVD is still active and you cannot copy a DVD to video. You can get one of these units at any big electronics store.

One issue you may encounter is Macrovision on the VHS tape (that is if your trying to copy a commercial movie - say Star Wars for example)
What the disc will record is bright then dark, bright then dark.
There are dual decks available to record vhs to dvd (in one machine) but Macrovision still applies here. Their intention is to copy home movies to dvd.

You would need a VCR and a DVD recorder. In UK you can rent these. Whether you can or not this side of the "pond", I do not know? It probably is and I suggest trying your local Yellow Pages.
