I like AVG, and not because it's free. I have tried over the years almost all the anti virus programs, and at the end of the day it's AVG. AVG doesn't slow down my computer, and doesn't conflict with my email program. Plus it's nice AVG is free.

McAfee and Norton are very corporate and in many cases the way to go. However, they are for profit and very common so therefore are the most attacked by viruses that attack and multiply by using the anti-virus's search engine.

Also, McAfee are more likely to include features to spy on you--they're not recommended for people who us p2p programs like kazaa--and they are cover-all programs that try to do everything without specializing in anything.

The way to go is use Avira's AntiVir or to use AVG Anti-Virus. They are both absolutely free so they down mysteriously stop working when your "subscription" ends. Also they were started by computer hackers who found its more profitable to make antivirus programs than to make viruses. Therefore, they are better protection for your computer because they see your computer from a hacker's view not with the programmer's view and they specialize in antivirus protection.

On top of all that, unlike McAfee and Norton, AVG and Avira scan in the background constantly whereas the former only scan when you tell them. AVG and Avira scan for suspicious behavior in addition to actual viruses. Lastly, McAfee and Norton update their virus definitions once a month at best whereas AVG and Avira update daily.

I have tried most of the antivirus programs out there (free and purchased) and have concluded that Nod 32 beats all the others hands down. After trialling Nod 32 for over a year, I decided to purchase 2 years worth of protection. It has NEVER let me down. Configure it to do auto updates............it's a real gem!!
Norton seems to be a bit finicky with other installed programs at times and can cause crashes.
The only other antivirus program I would recommend is Trend Micro.
But I am 110% happy with Nod 32.
Try it out.

Well, the best thing for you to do is buy an anti-virus software like McAfee or Symantec. But this would not be enough without you also beefing on your Windows Defender programme. The last line of defense is of course practice safe computing habits like avoid pirated software and be careful of opening strange mail attachments

We use AVG. Try searching for a downloadable one off of the Internet. Also, try Norton AntiVirus available at RadioShack. Or, contact a computer specialist and ask for their advice. Good luck!

Avg and Avast are 2 highly rated programs. I've used AVG for several years and never had a problem, it also can be set to update and scan everyday. Google these 2 and I think you will be happy.

trend micro has the best i think (but u have to pay anually).
or if u want to go for free, there is AVG free edition antivirus.
its also good but it takes ALONG time to complete a full system scan (which is recommended once a week. but personally i do it once a month lol)

actually you really don't need any. im a computer software major now, and ive learned that most anti-virus software is useless and overprotective. you will be highly annoyed at the number of security questions it asks, and it blocks almost everything you try to download. the sad truth is that most of this software is a scam trying to get people who don't know much about computers to buy it. however i do recommend getting ad-aware se. its free and can be found on download.com. it has regular updates and has solved most of my virus problems.
