Gary Lutz was an uncomfortable with his life, everything he did came out wrong. One day he was on the Internet and saw an advertisement that would change his way of life forever. He read that he could change bodies for one week. He thought to himself that he had nothing to lose, so he went to the address the advertisement gave to him. Karmen, who does the experiment, told Gary that everything was ready for the process of changing bodies. The body who he would exchange belongs to Dirk Davis, an athletic teenager who is very popular but not very bright. While in the process, a bee from his neighbor Andretti gets in the way and everything goes wrong. Dirk gets on the body of Gary, but the protagonist gets on the body of the bee. In the little body of the bee he tries to change back and understands how valuable his life was before.

Tone (literature)

In literature, the manner in which written words might be said (for example, sarcastic, mild, witty, angry).

Tone is hard to separate from mood, but in general the tone of a work can gradually shift (perhaps from sarcastic to ironic or from angry to remorseful), while mood describes the feeling of the entire piece. The tone of a work is produced mainly by the writer's diction or choice of words, but stylistic choices concerning syntax, line or sentence length, imagery, and so forth may also contribute.

The tone of this piece starts as defeatist, beaten and head down when it talks about Gary being uncomfortable with his life.

It changes to hope as he thinks about what could possible be.

Then it changes again to confusion and pretty weird as Gary gets to find out how a bee feels about life and gets to watch Dirk get his bodie for a bit.

Then it changes again to philosophical as a truth is exposed... his life WAS valuable before.

Think of how Gary is viewing the situation unfold and judge the tone by his view. By the way, this is a lot like the story "It's a Wonderful Life" with James Stewart. The hero wishes he had never been born so an angel shows him what the world would be like if he had never been born and he comes to his senses and gets back to living realizing how valuable he really was. It has the same kind of tone.
