can your friend be your soulmate ? does it necessarily have to be your husband ? -- does a soulmate have to have romantic ties?

i think so. you dont have to marry your soulmate. through life your going to have connections with more than one person, and at different levels. it may be hard to explain to your husband, im sort of in the same boat, i feel and old friend fulfilled that duty of my soulmate, but its just something i dont elaborate on, you know how guys can be.

It's possible. The reason people think soulmates have to do with romantic ties is because you're able to express yourself in every way to that person. With a "best friend" it's limited since you won't have sex, won't have any offspring, don't take vows to get married, and don't have one day where you really appreciate what you have with your "best friend." (I'm referring to a wedding day if I got you confused for a second.) I find it kind of sad that best friends are limited, however those limitations don't spark any other feelings of hatred (jealousy, cheating, divorce, etc.) So having a soulmate who is a best friend, although might be a little difficult, is definitely possible. Plus, with the way our American/Western culture is obsessed with sex, we associate a soulmate as one with romantic ties. I like your concept though since I've been thinking about it.

I wanted to say yes, but I have to say no....Soulmates usually refer to a romantic partner because this type of relationship is deep on all levels. That's why the word "soul" is used - to describe the depth of the relationship.
