The result would be a mixed bag...
Some areas would be hurt tremendously in places like South Africa; although, plenty of other countries do give humanitarian aid also. But, ironically a few surprising places would be devastated if they no longer received our humanitarian aid... ie, Palestine.
With that said, it is a mistake to look at giving aid as though we are just doing ppl a favour and they should bow down and worship us out of gratitude. This is a common mistake that some make and you even see this in this country when ppl gripe about giving the poor food stamps.
The reason that mentality is a mistake is because if you choose the path of idly standing by while the poor suffer, the end result is enormous animosity, anger, hatred and finally, crime. Crime in the form of theft at first... then as the hatred builds, those starving poor will not think twice to cut the throat of the man in a nice car just to get his wallet... after all, did that man care to help them get food? Also, when those ppl stealing food from the grocers do end up getting caught, who pays to put them in jail and their attorneys? = tax payers
So you see, giving aid is actually not about helping the poor and starving.. it is about helping a world stay civilised and actually about helping ourselves.

If the U.S stopped giving aid they would be economically, politically and socially worse off. The vast majority of so called aid as reported by our media is not aid but long term loans or 'tied' aid where for example you give Somalia $200M, but they have to use it to buy American goods, land mines for example. It is an illusion that the US gives a lot of aid, in fact true aid is of such insignificance especially relative to your supposed economic strength, that it is rather embarassing.

We? I assume you're talking about the USA, so I will respond in that manner. If the USA stopped giving aid to other countries, the other countries would stop paying interest on loans we've got vested interest in.

We ( the USA) woudl be better off, the rest of the world would suck. But that will never happen, to many whinning liberals out there would piss and moan that we aren't doing what we can to help EVERYONE IN THE WORLD.
Give the money and food to those poor familes in the United States first. Charity begins at home.

allot of people who seem to hate America would not eat as well. Hopefully before the Liberals trot out "America gives the least of the industrialized country"crap, remember that personally, Americans give more out of their own pockets than anyone else in the world.

Nothing. The USA is not the great "giver" you have been taught to believe..
Europe gives much more. The US press never covers it though. They just cover what we do which gives a false impression.
When's the last time you heard of a story about European or Asian aid in the US press?

Who cares what happens to them or what anyone thinks. That is our money. Until they pay off our debt, they need to quit giving gifts bought on Americas credit cards!
