You are not "doomed," at all.
What pre-natal "care" do you expect? Realistically -- there isn't much. A pat on the back, a pee in a cup, an admonishment to take vitamins; that's about it. Why people make such a fuss over it for healthy women mystifies me a bit.
There's #$*% all they can do about miscarriages. Sorry about yours. Me, too. They're extremely common. It does _not_ mean you'll have one again, though. And: really, nothing to be done about early pregnancy loss.
A good book will tell you more than a brief office visit with an obstetrician. Pick one up now; start reading -- you'll be reassured (assuming it isn't the useless and misleading "What to Expect When You're Expecting"), and will have a list of questions you'll want to ask when you finally do get an appointment.
You can still see your family doctor for a basic check of your own physical health, which is really all that's going to be useful at this point. Good luck.

I didn't go for my first pre-natal check up until 18 weeks. Millions of women all over the world have healthy babies without so much as seeing a doctor or the inside of a hospital. Unless you have particular concerns or are at high risk of complications you should be fine. Having said that, there's no reason not to see a doctor before then. If you want an appointment earlier then go for it. Why the heck not? Congrats and good luck.

You'll be fine. Just make sure you're eating healthy and taking care of yourself. Avoid any stressful or strenuous activities. The first couple prenatal appointments they just weigh you and take your blood pressure anyways. Usually they don't even want to see you until week 20 anyways. You might want to pick up a generic prenatal vitamin to hold you over until your doctor can recommend something else. If they make you nauseous take 2 children's vitamins a day. That's what I do, my doctor recommended it because I couldn't keep down normal prenatal vitamins.

Depending on where you live you maybe able to get free health care for the time being until your insurance starts. You may also be able to call you local clinic and ask about prenatal care befor your insurance starts. Just try to stay calm and take good care of yourself.

You should be fine, you do however need to start taking prenatal vitamins. I didn't go for my first prenatal appointment until I was 17 weeks. So far everything has been just fine. I am 39 weeks and looking forward to the birth of my son.

The one time I went without prenatal care until 11 weeks I miscarried. I don't know what caused it, but I won't take chances again, and now I make an appointment the day I find out I am pregnant! You can get medicaid in my state and many others just by being pregnant, you should look into it, the baby's health is important and so is yours, don't be embarrassed, everyone needs help sometimes! You can drop the medicaid the day your insurance kicks in, and until then you are getting the care and observation and vitamins you need! Congrats and take care of your both!

I have a friend who didn't receive prenatal care until she was seven months pregnant, and, while I don't recommend this, she had a perfectly healthy baby.
Some doctors will tell you that you don't need to be seen until 12 weeks. You can call your doctor and see what they recommend, and if they want to see you sooner, you can ask them to call your insurance company and get approval for an earlier visit.

Just having a medical professional monitor your and your baby's health will not help your baby grow any better! Women have been having babies for thousands of years without prenatal care. Sure, in very rare cases modern medicine finds something "wrong" that can be fixed. But most pregnancies are normal, healthy events.

There are things you can be doing in the mean time of seeing your doctor. Are you taking folic acid? Eating healthy, staying away from excessive amounts of sugar and junk food. Also if you sense anything is wrong go to the ER. It is important not only for the baby's health but yours as well to get care sooner than later.
Also, take it easy. Don't lift anything or overexert yourself, drink plenty of fluids, especially water.

Many moms never had one day of pre-natal care. There are prenatal vitamins over the counter if you want to begin to take those. Watch your weight and exercise regularly (you will be so glad you did) and eat right.
There are clinics to go to if you still think you need to go before approved..
