It sounds stupid and absurd, i have been brought up to think and know that nothing is given away for free, but i never tried to do it either. Has anyone ever tried and actually recieved a free item?

They are ALL SCAMS. Do not participate in any of them no matter how legitimate or enticing they seem. Some will even take money from your credit card even though you don't remember giving them the numbers. They are very clever so avoid them all. You probably won't heed my advice but I can assure you that at some point you will look back to this answer and wish you had.

Generally no- if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Additionally, if you forward these kinds of promotions to your friends, etc. you will certainly get them annoyed.... lol.
