Make sure that you have completely soaked the area that you are going to shave with warm water. Use a very sharp good brand razor(the ones with 3 blades and moisture strips are good) and shave slowly. Using shaving cream or a moisturizing wash helps too.
Some lotions or aftershaves will cause irritation after shaving for people with sensitive skin, so choose a lotion specifically designed for sensitive skin to prevent irritation.

A good shave requires patience.
Apply a moisturizer and a hot damp towel for a few minutes on your face before shaving. Always use a really good sharp razor. You might want to check out Intuition razors, they're fantastic. 3 blades and a built in soap ring that guarantees a close gentle shave. Pricy, but definitely worth it.
My husband borrowed my Intuition razors when he ran out of his one day. He was amazed at their performance, especially please with the continuous soap application. Also the soap is good quality and gentle even on the face. You may need a more agile razor for around your nose. Better two razors though, than razor burn right?

Get a nice shave gel made for women. Start with the sensitive kind, cause you sound sensitive. Make sure your legs are nice and wet before you start... I wash all over first, which gives my legs time to absorb moisture. Then put on the shave gel and work it into a lather. Then shave. I find the Schick Quattro nicks me less than any other razor, but it's expensive. I hate the Venus razor. For disposables, the Daisy razor with a pivot head is best. After you get out of the shower and dry off, first thing put a good lotion on your legs.

Tips for Shaving With a Blade
The book Men’s Hair makes the following suggestions for effective shaving with a blade.
1. Softening your whiskers: The only way to soften facial hair really well is to apply plenty of hot water. If possible, shave after taking a shower, as this allows more time for the water to soften the whiskers.
2. Applying preshave products: All the various soaps, lathers, creams, and gels accomplish essentially three things. (1)Â They lock moisture into the whiskers, (2)Â they keep them erect, and (3)Â they lubricate the skin so that the razor slides over it more easily. Choose the product that works best for you. Oh, have you tried hair conditioner? It is also designed to soften hair.
3. Using the right razor in the right manner: The right razor is a sharp razor. Blunt razors can damage your skin. Cut with the grain of hair growth. Shaving against the grain may give a close shave, but it can cut whiskers below skin level and cause them to grow into surrounding tissue instead of out through the pores of the skin. According to some sources, careless shaving habits—by men and women—can cause viral infections leading to warts.
4. After-shave skin protection: Each time you shave, you remove a microscopic layer of skin, leaving your skin vulnerable. Therefore, it is important to rinse all residues off your face with clean water—warm at first, then cool to close your pores and seal in moisture. If you wish, you can apply a moisturizing after-shave lotion to protect and refresh your skin.

I never got a razor burn before. Use a razor that has 4 or 5 blades for the best cut.

well for shaving my face, i make sure that i apply a hot towel to the skin for several minutes first. then i use a good quality aloe based shaving cream and triple blade swivel head razor. I only use the razor blades 3 times before changing.
i never use after shave because it just dries my skin out and burns like crazy.

Use an antiseptic cleaner that contains Salicylic Acid. Clean the shaved area thoughly w/the Salicylic Acid. It will slightly burn for just a moment & it is not a bad burn either. Do this immediately after shaving & 1-2 days afterwords.

i get razor burns when i shave my legs ALL the time and i hate it. i've tried different shave gels, shaving with regular soap, shaving with conditioner, shaving in just water, after shave lotion for legs, hair mininizing lotions, not shaving (not a good one. lol.), shaving more often, shaving less often, shaving in cold water, shaving in hot water, different kinds of cheap razors, mens razors (not a good one either...too harsh)...etc. and none of it worked all that well. lol. it sux. electric razors don't get close enough for a smooth shave. i've even tried nair and veet, but they burn my sensitive skin. i'm too afraid to let the hair grow long enough to wax it. lol. the only thing that has helped a little is the schick quattro razor for women. there's like purple ones and maroon ones. the 4 razors get closer to the skin, but it's also gentle on the skin. i also still use after shave lotion for legs. i recommend the "skintimate moisturizing after shave gel" it has aloe and vitamin E to sooth the razor burn you may get. i use the "glistening pear" scent. i wasn't paying attention when i started answering this, so i don't know if i'm talking to a female about shaving legs or a man about shaving his face. lol. so i hope this helps! lol.

this depends on your kind of skin... if its more sensative than it could be more difficult to get rid of those annoying razor burns... You could try certain creams that may help but the best way is to get a wax :) it makes you feel pretty.
