how to cope with a friend who only tells you half of the story, but you must push for more details?

i have a good friend who only tells her story half way, i feel that i have to push for more details all the time, is that normal? she is a secretive person, quiet and sometimes shy...e.g. i say to her ''how is your day'', she said ''ok, i went somewhere its great''... is that normal?

It seems to me she's doing this to get your undivided attention. It keeps the conversation going and you ask questions only she knows the answers to. If she's not a close friend and it annoys you so much it makes you crazy, drift away from the friendship. If you like having her in your life and you are close with her, deal with it or ask her to stop it. I think it's normal for some people to learn from their parents or others to be this way. Depends on how comfortable she is with you in your guys' relationship. Did something happen between you two that she can't trust you with information? I suggest that you bond with her a little more, talk to her casually, and maybe she'll start opening up to you. It might also depend on her perception of you. Do you follow her around to the point where she doesn't feel comfortable? Probably not, so just keep conversing with her casually, find something you have in common, and that will break the ice.

Tell her that if she can't tell you the whole story then you don't want to hear it at all. Then the next time she tells you something if she doesn't tell you the whole story then immediately start talking about something you did. She will eventually get the picture.

why do u have to push? how do u know her story is half? you are an insecure person and I bet you tell nothing of yourself.
