Also, in 2005, the spurs changed all of their banners from "world champions" to saying "nba champions." Was this the NBA's decision to do this? Or did the spurs do this?

I don't know who made this decision. If you go on nba.com and just wander around you might find the answer or find out if they're calling the 2007 Finals the "World" or "NBA" championship series.
In a larger sense, I believe that the NBA champions are the world champions. Don't look at national team results. Even the talent of the USA team can't really be a good team if they only play together for a month. An NBA team works together for most of the year. This is most evident in team defense and offensive execution, two keys to winning basketball.
The NBA has all of the best players from every national team so the NBA is the best league in the world. No other professional team from any other country could beat a top-tier NBA team in a 7-game season. I even doubt that a top foreign team could beat ANY NBA playoff team in a 7-game series.

The NBA does know that they are the WORD Champions, however, everybody knows that the NBA has the greatest players of all time. Carlos Arroyal was Puerto Rico's MVP. That's why the NBA picked him up. Right now he is barely a second string bench player for the Orlando Magic. The Spurs did not ask to be the "NBA Champions". It was David Sterns idea because Stern, as much as we don't believe, is a VERY and i mean VERY humble person. NBA is a lot more humble that it has ever been and would like to be known as a very respectable association.

good, you already gave the reply for your possess query approximately the groups that handiest play in America. I feel it might take a robust public concentration campain to pit the NBA workforce that wins in the USA towards a basketball workforce from an extra nation. But it would be performed. It comes right down to cash. If you would promote tickets or advert time on television you would real see an international champion (like the sector cup for eu soccer)
