If you have a steam iron, do you have to empty the water out of the iron after each use or else will it corrode the surface of the iron? Or does leaving the water in the iron do nothing?

I leave my iron and ironing board up all the time (in the laundry room). I don't empty the water out of it. I use the iron at least every other day so the water does not just SIT in there, but I have not had any trouble with corrosion of the iron.
