I know how to balance equations but its so hard for me!
i just keep getting all messed up
i want to ask 'how do you do it' but i know how to do it
only i cant really do it.
so basically can you teach me to balance in a way that makes sense?

ok so i got it balanced.
but i still dont know how
like ok, so its Fe2O3+3CO ->2Fe+3CO2
but how do you know to put a 3?
to get the equal O you put a 2 in front, but then the C's arent balanced so how do you come up with 3?

if 4.00 kg of Fe2O3 are available to react, how many moles of CO are needed?

1) Fe+3 --> Fe + 3 e-
2) C-2 + 2 e- --> C-4

I always use a chart to help me...I call it my RAP chart

R(eactant) A(tom) P(roduct)


List your atoms in the A column

In this case, you have oxygen in two different molecules on the reactant side but in only one on product side...this means that any change in coefficient on left will change number of O. Leave it to last.

Start with Fe. Write a 2 in the R column for the 2 Fe. Write in the coefficient you need to make 2 Fe on product side.

Now you have 4 O on R side...start with 2 coefficient for CO2, but now that gives you 2 C n product side and you only have one on reactant side....go to next whole number, and now you see how it balances.

I use the chart for 'bookkeeping', and that way I make mistakes on the chart and not on my formula!

You can get this...it does get easier...practice!

For your next problem, change mass to moles, use mole-mole ratio.....
