There is a section in 1984 that says that the only way to fully achieve peace is to ensue War, because War leads everyone to be on one accord with each other, and it is also good for the economy. It will use surplus of goods, however it also will not lead to a depression, because so many people are employed, and so many things are being used for War. Here' s direct quote from the book: In the past, the ruling groups of all countries, although they might recgnize their common interest, and therefore limit the destructiveness of war, did fight against one another, and the victor always plundered the vanquished. In our own day they are not fighting against each other at all. The war is waged by each ruling group against its own subjects, and the object of the war is not to make or prevent conquests of territory, but to keep the structure of the society intact. Therefore...A peace that was truly permanent would be the same as a permanent war (Orwell II-9).

However, you just did devalue life.
War since the beginning of time has most often, (but not always) been instigated and started by persons that know each other very well, and fought by persons that do not know each other at all. That is one of the horrible things about it. And one of the reasons that the persons who started the war are so able to make up and act like nothing ever happened after all the killing and inhumanities have ended.
If sane persons all over the world would rise up and immediately kill any individual in their nation that even wanted to try to start a war with another country, there would be no more wars. I will guarantee you that.
So, the answer is NO, eternal war is not the only answer to eternal peace. Killing every would be warmonger immediately is the answer to eternal peace!

No, war is not the way to peace.
To be at war is to be hating another country, poelpe or way of life. This will always lead to suspision, fear and paranioia. Take the US's cold war with Russia, to be a communist in the 50's was tantamount to treason and we wont even go into the Russian side of the equation.
Although it will improve the situation in the short term, war has never improved the situation in the lanog term. Hope this helps.

Eternal war= eternal peace? Talk about an oxymoron!
The words have entirely different meanings.
I feel that George Orwell has above as much psychological value as Sigmund Freud and his sexually molested daughter.
Furthermore, it's important to remember that the book, 1984, is FICTION! A fictional story with fictional ideas.
That's like saying "to be thin you gotta be obese."

War is the only true fact based on a concept, that by killing your fellow human beings you have achieved power, success and recognition. Bull and very non logical in my view of humanity and what that should stand for. War is the murder of humanity and our human race, all life was born onto Earth, infants, innocent and beautiful creations for this planet and now you threaten that life with the justification of War being a solution to attain Peace, this mentality was created by men who have been raised with violence and hunger to be the one, which can be as powerful as the creator of all life, Earth, Humanity and the unseen. All we are saying is give peace the chance, love the chance, love who you were born to be and Earth, then there would never be this evil, which was created by certain brainless, greedy, coldhearted humans that do not have the right to claim this planet, which is to be enjoyed and appreciated by all of humanity, our only home and for our fellow human beings who have decided to destroy this life, what purpose does that really serve. War is not needed because it does not serve any beneficial reasons. Animals survive on instinct and with dignity and do not go out in the world searching for ways on killing needlessly and without remorse. Shame on the countries on this planet for participating in the destruction of humanity.

No, it is contradictory that war equals peace. Having said that, as long as one person tries to exercise his will on someone else, peace cannot exist. It is one person's attempt to control someone else against their will that leads to mistrust, contempt, and unlimately hatred. To be free we all need to allow others to be free. Because of the rapid escalation to war in our modern world it seems that the only two paths are people learning to allow others to be free or complete destruction of civilization.

Your question contains contradiction. Rephrasing: Can we live in peace every day if we fight 24 hours a day? No room for peace in raging war.
