I would have said East. The other answer that it is considered South, I suppose is right, but I believe the people of that State had a tough time figuring out if they were southerners or northeners. It is a nice State with good people and wonderful outdoor recreation. Also, for a small state the have one huge football team in the University of West Virginia. The history is also interesting and you can see that when you check out the map of West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland.

I was just looking at this States book my son got for his birthday. I was very surprised that W. Virginia is considered part of the South! It is south of the Mason-Dixon line which was the divider between the northern and southern states in the Civil war. The southern region states are: W. Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, & Arkansas.

Good question!
