Who started this evolution only stops with extinction crap? Folks, I appreciate that you want to support the idea of evolution, but you need to have a basic understanding of how evolution works to be able to defend it properly. Mutations occur constantly, however, without any selection (positive or negative) NO EVOLUTION IS GOING ON!
Here we go with the correct but still unpopular answer.
In order for evolution to proceed you need genetic variation that is acted upon by natural selection. Natural selection dictates that less fit individuals will reproduce less (or not at all) than more fit individuals. Without natural selection THERE IS NO EVOLUTION.
So, if you look at human beings, we've had the technology for centuries to assure that all humans (or at least a random sampling) reach adult reproductive age, regardless of fitness (those 6 billion people out there must be proof of that). Hence there is no natural selection in human populations, hence there is no evolution in human populations.
Human technologies may evolve, but humans as a species have stopped undergoing biological evolution long ago.
Unless something drastic happens you are already looking at the end product of human evolution.

It is VERY important to understand that evolution does not have a direction ... never has ... and thus has no destination, much less a "final" destination (because evolution does not arrive somewhere and then stop) ... not for humans or for any other organism.
Evolution is a product of (A) random mutations and (B) selective pressure from the environment. Neither of these is predictable. And that is why evolution is not predictable. It is also why, if we rewound the clock of time and started evolution all over again, evolution would probably produce *very* different results.
In other words, evolution is like history ... it can tell us where we came from, but not where we're going.
All that said, it is fun to speculate about possible future directions. I'll leave that for people with more imagination than I have. :-)

It is what it is - if humans have evolved to the point that we can extend our lives more and control disease, then that is all part of evolution. However, I don't see how we can truly evolve as a species any further considering how large the gene pool is. Evolution happens over long periods where mutations have a chance to propagate, and with so many genes in the pool, any mutations that are beneficial will not have a significant impact on the population as a whole.

The theory of evolution by natural selection can deal with the past and present, but the future would be pure speculation. You seem to imply that evolution is directional and progressive; both wrong. Destination and evolution in the same sentence is incoherent.

There's no way to know. Evolution is a process of random change and adaptation to a changing environment (again largely unpredictable because of volcanos and such) through natural selection. Look at the impact on culture. Before widespread central heating skinny women weren't considered beautiful. They (and consequently their children) had a harder time surviving cold winters.

Evolution doesn't work that way. There is no "end result" that it's attempting to achieve. Evolution is simply adaptation to the current environment through natural selection and mutation.

Evolution has no "destination" or end. Evolution is about adaptation, and which ever creature adapts to the changing world will survive.

Agree... there´s no "final" destination... we will evolve untill extintion... truth is humans will get shorter, arms will grow longer, mouths smaller, hair will be gone (I read all this somewhere) and maybe all brown (no black or white) and something about the reproductive..maybe 1 or 2 kids per couple max... (women´s hips are getting thinner (not the case of my sisters!!))

Who said humans will stop evolving? I mean unless we are still on this planet when the sun is about to explode. Then Id say that we have better UV ray protection since the sun will be so much closer to the planet than it already is.
