It is true that a "Yank" can be an abbreviated form of Yankee, a word used in some English-speaking countries to refer to Americans, and within the USA to refer to Northerners. However, a Yank can also refer to the following:
-Yank, the Army Weekly, a newspaper for American soldiers during World War II
-Yank (physics), the rate of change in force
-Yanks, a 1979 film
-Yank Rachell bluesman, mandolin and guitar player.
-Yank, the name for the copy command in vi and the paste command in Emacs, two commonly used unix/linux text editor.
