I agree. Television is entertaining, but I think some people take it too far. My husband wants a plasma, flat TV that you can mount to the wall for $1300.00. I say, we have a TV that works, so why spend the money?

First off to take advantage of a High Def TV you need a large screen. That means a 50" or bigger TV for normal viewing distances. The picture on High Def has a much higher resolution than standard def TV. The picture is more clear and defined.
If the picture you saw was too bright, it was simply because the TV you were viewing was not properly calibrated. The Manufacturer's default settings are to make the picture brighter (more contrast) because that what people like too see when buying a new TV.
If you saw the difference between Standard and High definition TV on my 100" projection screen, the first thing you would say is that the high definition looks like you're looking through a window or like you're part the scene. It's spectacular, just like being there.

It's beautiful to watch and engages your senses more than regular television. The colors are different. The action seems more real. Less of a sense of a moving photograph. More like seeing it really in front of you.
Kind of reminds me of how beautiful it was when I was nearly blind and then I had cataract surgery. The world was more beautiful.
Costs are dropping pretty fast so it shouldn't be long before it's affordable.
