I'm supposed to play a total 80's brat in my one act speech contest, and tommorow I am going shopping for my outfit at a thrift store. I want to go ALL out..completley 80's, and a total valley girl. Keep in mind I am playing one of the "popular snobby" girls and I want to look the part as much as possible. What are some great ideas, and some pictures or URLS for help if possible. Please, your help is really appreciated. Thank you so much!

Theses socks were very popular.

They were worn with any outfit but especially over leggings with a long shrt, sweatshirt, or sweater. Usually paired with Keds.

Side ponytails or bangs or both were poular for the hair.

Look at movies like Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club, or Sixteen Candles for some ideas. Also music videos from the Go Gos, or the Bangles. Leggings with an oversized sweater and a scarf as a headband would work. You could also go the preppy route and wear a kahki skirt and polo shirt with a sweater tied over your shoulders and wear pearls.

snobby girl chic circa 1980's

Angora sweater or preppy sweater in a pastel colour with polo shirt underneath in a complementary pastel colour...

pearls, earings, pins, necklaces

pleated chinos or pants, rolled at the bottom...or denim mini skirt

white, short socks

penny loafers or white keds with no socks, pastel or white pumps

Bonne Bell pastel makeup, emphasis on the frosted pink lipstick or gloss

pony tail, with matching scrunchie to the outfit, bangs not hugely teased but a bit to show some height...the bob was huge in the 80's...a lot of girls had the bob or side bob

look for brands like Esprit, Polo by Ralph Lauren, Benetton, Camp Beverly Hills

You could also do the other snotty girl uniform of a tails shirt, with a broach at the collar buttoned to the top and stirrup pants with slouch socks and black pointy toed granny boots or shoes...These were more of a small town snobby girl look...

top the look off with a pastel, preferably a different pastel than the one you are wearing, Le Sportsac purse

a perfect look from a movie would be Molly Ringwald in the Breakfst Club or Lea Thompson in Some Kind Of Wonderful or Amanda Peterson in Can't Buy Me Love (McDreamy plays the geek boy who likes her)

Try some TIGHT strait leg (like leggings) jeans, torn at knee (one or both does not matter), long sweaters, ankle boots, legwarmers, sort of like the movie Flashdance, or your best bet would to rent movies from the 80's, especially Breakfast Club, St Elmo's Fire, Sixteen Candles, Fame, and so forth. Bringing back memories!!!

Get a pair of Straight Legged Levis,..No hip huggers. A pair of White Nike Swoop Shoes,...and a top,..with shoulder pads,..tucked into your pants,...with a thin leather belt. You'll be right in there. oh,..don't forget to wear your hair in a mullet,...with the front bangs looking as if you just exploded an M-80 in them BIG and Poofy, and lots of hairspray to hold them in place. OH an get a Agner Leather Purse.
LOL
I loved the 80's man.

Big hair, big earings, big sweaters and leggings or leg warmers. I think 16 Candles & Valley Girl would be good movies to watch to get down the style and slang. Good Luck!!

Watch an 80's movie like St Elmo's Fire. Really good for 80's fashions.
