How it broke: someone probably stepped on it. I know, that sounds really stupid and careless. Well, the reason that happened was... i don't really have a reason... But still, the past is the past, right? I doubt this can be fixed by a DIY method, but if getting a new laptop costs more than repairing it, then I'd gladly go for the former option. After all, it already runs like crap and my birthday's only a few months away. Not like I have secret government data on it... Just the Sims 2, pretty much, and a few other programs. I don't know exactly what I'm asking... Um, basically I just want more info on this. I've skimmed other similar questions... Perhaps I can get better answers this time?

Depending on the model you have, it may be an easier than other models. I've replaced Dell laptop screens without much trouble, the pieces come apart as their instructions say.

However, definitely get a price on a replacement part first (also depending on the brand you own). Office Depot will run sales on laptops pricing them at around $300-400 after rebate. They're a bit low end, but all you really need is to invest an upgrade on memory (which for laptops isn't a bad DIY project) - hope this helps in your decision making

You can do it yourself but it is pretty expensive for a replacement screen. How old was the computer, if it is a couple years old then what I would do if you still want to keep it is buy a cheap lcd monitor from best buy or something and plug it into the labtop with the lid closed and plug in another keyboard to your labtop and then you will have a really small desktop computer that you can still use and get yourself another labtop if you need one. I did the same thing and thats what I did because the labtop lcd screens are too much money to replace.
