Don't know if they get paid for it, but they definitely are on for entertainment value and not because they are good. AI will put some of those people on because they are sooooo bad. If gives people a good laugh. And yes, we are laughing at them and not with them. What on earth gives some of these people the idea that they can sing? I watch a little tonight, but nausea set in and I had to stop. I realize that Seattle isn't a really big city, but I am surprised that there wasn't more talent than that.
The sad thing is that some of these kids have been told by their families that they can sing and how wonderful they are, etc. etc.
The kindest thing that their families could do is tell them that while they love them to death, they really aren't that good and they should save themselves the embarrassment of going through the auditions.

You're kidding- right? Most people will do ANYTHING to get on TV, including making absolute fools of themselves. The TV networks KNOW this; so they dreamed up A.I. to take advantage of this endless supply of stupidity- KNOWING that there are just as many idiots willing to WATCH this nonsense!!! And if someone happens to have a trace or three of talent- well all the better! -It'll bring in ever MORE revenue to the networks- cuz they're gonna get a cut out of THOSE proceeds too! So the next time you're watching some poor unfortunate croak their throat out in front of Paula, Simon, & what's- his-name, -remember; some big wig at FOX is smiling & thinking, "Gotcha". !!! :)

ohhh, i know we were just thinking that last night, cuz some of them are a little too out there don't ya think? And after they show some of them singing 1 certain song, well didn't we see that in the auditions, and why do they put such an emphasis on the horrible singers, and who ever told these people they were good? yeah it seems like a set up to me, but maybe it's just the people and not the show?

Some people will do anything to have their 15 minutes(or in some cases 1 minute) of fame. American Idol is just an easy means to get it.

those freeks find them. The first season obtained there (cough) talent by putting an add on the internet, and all these people applied to it, after that all they had to do is anounce another season. apparently those freeks no how to use a search engine.

I don't know- I think they all just want to see themselves in tv. I hope they don't actually believe that they can really sing.
