There's lots of good websites explaining this better than anyone can explain here, because the graphics here are limited and it's hard to write fractions in a way that's easy to read.
Graphics can make all the difference; good graphics can make the problem make total sense, while poor graphics can make it seem a lot harder than it is.
Just put tutorial fractions equations in your search window and you'll turn up some. One of my favorites is purplemath.com.
Just a minute and I'll get some for you...

Yes do as the person above says. Lets say its 3/4 y + 7 = 7/9 a - 1.
Then just multiply 36 which is 9*4 to every term in the equation and you are left with 27y + 252 = 28a - 36.

If you get the technique right but still feel that its strange, you may want to play around using real objects to represent variables and numbers. It may sound childish, but it will help your understanding. Your teacher may aid you in this.

Here's how to solve -3/4n + 7 = 25

Step 1: multiply both sides by 4

4 x (-3/4n +7) = 4 x 25
-3n + 28 = 100

Step 2: subtract 28 from both sides

-3n + 28 - 28 = 100 - 28
-3n = 72

Step 3: Divide both sides by -3

-3n / -3 = 72 / -3
n = -24

Here's a second way to solve the same problem:

Step 1: subtract 7 from both sides

-3/4n + 7 - 7 = 25 - 7
-3/4n = 18

Step 2: multiply both sides by 4

4 x (-3/4n) = 4 x 18
-3n = 72

Step 3: Divide both sides by -3

-3n / -3 = 72 / -3
n = -24

If you find it hard to divide by -3 you can divide by 3 then in a 4th step multiply by -1.

equations are like scales with = being blancing point. so what you do one side you must do to other side

1+x=3
the idea is to get x=something
the opposite of + is -
the opposite of - is +
the opposite of * is /
the opposite of / is *

1+x=3
-1+1+x=3+1
x=4

x/2=3
(2)x/2=3(2)
x=6

I hope that helps

on your 2d project f=9c/5+32 clean up for c, you want to get each thing except c on one fringe of the equation. F = 9c/5 + 32 -32 -32 subtract 32 from both facet F-32 = 9c/5 *5 *5 multiply both facet by technique of 5 5(F-32) = 9c 5F-one hundred and sixty - 9c /9 /9 divide both facet by technique of 9 5F -one hundred and sixty/9 = C you get 5F - one hundred and sixty throughout 9=C

multiply everything on both sides of the equations by the denominator of the fractions and you will get rid of all the fractions.
