Is it better to quit a job due to disatisfaction, unfulfillment and personal ethics or hope that things would turn around? I've been working at a job for about 1.5 years and am simply not sure that I wish to go in the same direction that the boss wants me to go. A job, I feel, should be like a successful marriage, which benefits both partners. If one partner is unhappy, perhaps it is time to part company while things remain amicable?

Feel free to quit but realize it is a tad unrealistic to find a job/career that fulfills your personal, ethical, and financial needs. Before you leave however weigh the following factors heavily:

1) Do I have a new job that pays just as well lined up?
2) Do I have a new job that actually interests me? Failure to do so will probably end up in the hamster job wheel.
3) Do I even know what I really want from a job? Do some self analysis b/c if you don't even know what you really want and understand what you are willing to sacrifice to get there, no one can really help you.
4) Do I understand all employers do not owe me anything? By this I mean you companies are not obligated to make you happy or fulfill you, you are paid to conduct certain tasks/job that is it.
5) Before I officially leave have I exhausted all options within the company? I.e. Have you looked at other departments and positions within to see if they might be promising positions?

Good luck.

Well, thats a tough one..I mean, everyone needs a job..but, we all have those days with our job..as you do often with a marraige where you feel like giving up and quitting. How do you feel when you leave at the end of the day/night?? are you still reeling from everything youve endured at work or do you look back and think well, I could learn from this?? ..it all depends..work can..well, suck..but, i would wait it out maybe another 6 mo. to a year..and see how i feel..but thats just me. good luck.

good question. if your not happy at work then it will just bring you down. it may get to the point that you will be crying going to work and leaving. hate to go to work with tears of pain but excited to leave for the day with tears of joy.

it all depends upon your monies... if you have money saved up or another job lined up go for it. if not as soon as a job comes available give your notice and run.

Never quit your job until you have a new job -- a gap on your resume looks horrible

Go ahead and start sending out resumes and applying for new positions but do not quit your job until you have a new job

I think you are right to get out now, but have job to go to first. No matter what your skills, etc., unfortunately your boss gets to set the tone and the direction. It will be easier for you to get out now.

You should move on. Dump bosses only get dumber and harder to stomach. Leave before it affects your mental health.
