Without sounding, well, gross, you'll find blood in your underwear. Sometimes at the very beginning of a period it can be a slightly brownish colour. You'll know when you have it, cos you'll be able to feel it come out when you laugh, cough or sneeze. You may get some slight discomfort in your lower tummy area too.
I remember when I got my first, it was just about 10 drops of blood in my undies. I was the last of all my friends to get it and I felt all grown up and like a real woman!! I wished I got it when I was 21 not 13.
Don't listen to any of the guys. They have NO idea whatsoever!!!

Most women have some form of PMS ( pre menstrual syndrome) but some are more severe than others. Usually you will find yourself a little overly emotional about a week before. You may feel bloated and your breasts may feels tender or swollen. Then possibly just before it comes you may experience pain in your lower back and cramping in your abdomen . When this happens you better find something to use because it's coming very soon. Also if you drink beverages with caffeine in it stay away from them when you have your period . They will just intensify the bloating and cramping. Ibuprofen helps to relieve the cramping and remember to drink lots of water this will help greatly. take care !! : )

When you start your period you should have bright red blood coming from your vagina. Some people experience cramps in there lower abdomen. You might not have allot of blood since this is your first one. If you are still not sure ask a parent or older friend.

OK, basically you should look for brown/rusty red coloured fluid on your undies/pad/tampon everyday, if you spot this and it happens everyday for about a week in each month then its a yes, you've got it

The first hint is usually a wet, uncomfortable feeling in your underwear. Secondly, you should notice blood when you use the restroom. The next step is deciding what type of sanitary products to use, you have the choice between tampons and pads. Tampons are inserted directly into your vagina and pads are sort of like diapers, they line your underwear and absorb the blood. It is best to talk to a female relative or friend about this for more information. Congrats!
