Tell me a little bit about Wyoming:

-Are the people warm, polite, and friendly?
-Are the skies and land really as big and empty as people say they are? (I don't mean that derogatorily at all.)
-What are the major cities like (Cheyenne, Casper, Rock Springs, Laramie...)
-What are some of the major attractions there (other than Grand Teton and Yellowstone)?
-Would you recommend Wyoming or another western state?

I've given some thought to moving there, and am just curious on what it's like. Thanks!

My sister has lived there for 15 years....in Casper and now Cody and she keeps begging me to move there claiming it's better than Minnesota....she has high praise for Wyoming!!! If she says it's good, that's good enough for me!!

I do live in Wyoming, moved here a year ago from Oregon. It is something we should have done years ago! The first thing I noticed was everywhere you go, the men open the door for you (I like it). For the most part, the people are very friendly and polite. There of course are the exceptions. I live in Star Valley, about an hour south of Jackson Hole. The area definitely is not empty. There are mountains around us and the skies definitely look big.
The major cities are Cheyenne, Casper, Rock Springs, Riverton/Lander, Laramie and Evanston. The major attractions are the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Jackson Hole in general, and Cody (Buffalo Bill museums).
It really depends on which area you are in, but I know that jobs are plentiful throughout the state and housing prices vary greatly. Where I live, you can get a 1800 sq. ft. house for $180k, but the average house in Jackson is $1million (the reason why a lot of people live here and commute to high paying jobs in Jackson).
I hope that helped, but I would suggest visiting. You can check out the state web site at www.state.wy.us

We visited there in 1996. We went to every corner of the state. My husband works for a jail in Orlando and one of the inmates told him that Evanston (South West)was starting to have a little gang activity start up there. We loved every bit of the state though. The only part of Wyoming that did not appeal to me (as far as living there possibly in the future) was Gillette. I can't explain it, but I just didn't get a good feeling about it there. However in Moorecroft (not too far from Gillette), the Devil's Tower was an awesome site .
The people are very friendly there in Wyoming, and when you are from a big city (like I have been in all of my 38 yrs.) it was almost like stepping into the "Twilight Zone". The children seem to have free roam like we did when we were kids, people wave at you when just in passing, it just plain smells better out there, and the views are breathtaking (sort of like the stench in the city LOL). If you like space, wildlife, and good ole' home cooking...Wyoming is the place to be. Keep in mind that it is very windy in Cheyenne, and cold in Jackson Hole.
We actually are thinking about living there one day in the near future. We are checking every town out that we seem to be interested in.
I'm a City girl with a Country heart. I love the outdoors and space. Wyoming seems to be the place for me :)

I loved Wyoming,, i guess i was the outdoorsy type of girl as a teenager.... If you like the country and the serene isolation, Wyoming is definitely the place to be.... people are very friendly and polite. I've only been to Rock Springs and yellowstone nat'l park, but i don't think there are any other sites to see besides that... it is pretty empty state...

Wyoming - at least the parts that I've been to - is beautiful. The people are warm, friendly and as polite as just about anywhere else in the west. I've heard bad things about Rock Springs, you don't want to live there. My husband spent his teenage years in Big Piney (that's in the western part of the state) and the surrounding area. It's cold, the wind is always blowing and he remembers many times being snowed in and unable to even get out of the house. Most of the jobs then were with the oil companies. My experience with that area is that there are many open spaces to wander about, look for pioneer and Indian artifacts, and everyone waves at you as they drive past.
Myself, I would not want to live in that area. Jobs seem scarce, not much entertainment and there were mosquitoes galore. Take a trip there and decide for yourself. I doesn't fit my style, but it may fit yours!
