Carrera GT, my good sir. The only McLaren that a McLaren enthusiast should buy (if you can afford it) is the F1.

Likewise, a Porsche is a top of the line automobile, as long as you buy the Carerra GT. The Boxster is the "Porsche with Panties". :-)

It's a little bit of a silly question really... I mean, most people that are shopping in the $200k+ range tend to have some thought about just what it is they want in a car! And chances are, none of these cars are exactly interchangable, so of these, the choice would come down to what you are looking for, and perhaps influenced by what other cars you own - because none of these would ever be the only car you own.

Do you want an all out luxury coupe that also happens to be pretty quick? Get the Mclaren. Do you want all out speed and performance with a car that also adds at least a usable degree of comfort? Get the Carrera GT. Do you want something fast and more unknown to the average passerby's eyes? Get the Koenigsegg.

well, first off, i do realize this is a 13 or so year old asking this, considering these 3 cars arent even all of the same class (slr is a super-GT, not a supercar), and didnt list any of the other competing cars, such as the Mclaren F1, Zonda F, Murcielago LP640, S7 TT, CCR, CCX, enzo, numerous other cars, or what he would be using the car for.

that being said, it would just be up to what hes using it for. If he wants a track car, the CGT or CC8S would be the best bets, although if he actually wanted a track car, he should look in the Radical SR8 or ariel atom or Diasio 962 or Donkervoort class of cars. If its a street car, then the slr would be the best bet. If it was a dual use car, then the CGT or cc8s would again be the best bets.

overall though, if you want to learn about supercars, check out the forums on Supercars.net. were a huge online community and could answer any questions about any of the cars you post about. Heck we even have a guy that i swear knows more about the mclaren than Mclaren himself....

The Porsche is of the highest quality and should be the most reliable of those three.

I know very little about Koenigsegg, but I'm not that impressed.

Mercedes is known for unreliability these days and the McLaren F1 is known to overheat and be generally unreliable so I wouldn't trust that car.

The Porsche is a work of art that is of the highest quality and reliability and actually has a dealer network. Better than a Mercedes experimental car and better than a Dutch kit car with a Ford F150 engine in it.

There are many options out there. The two that stick out in my head right off are the Ferrari California and the Aston Martin DBS. I actually don't know much about Ferrari reliability, but the Aston Martin is a near perfect GT car. It's gorgeous, fast, reliable, fantastic quality, cool, etc. Also, the Fisker Karma is a pretty decent GT car as I learned last night, which surprised me. OH! and the Mercedes-Benz Sls coupe and roadster. I almost forgot about them. Incredible cars if you like the Mercedes-Benz quality, look, and reliability. Plus it's naturally aspired v8 sounds ridiculously good.

I have a friend who test drives cars for a living, worked at a Ferrari dealer, and owned his dream car...a 1972 Ferrari. Right now he is in what he calls "between ferraris". Yet he is looking at buying a 1996 -1999 Porsche, if that tells you anything...

In term of performance and liability, Porche is better. But if you have so much spare money to buy either luxury car, it's doesn't matter which car you buy.

Wow, I wish I could have those cars on my wish list, but I'm slightly conservative on cars. So my wish list is Chevy HHR, Ford Focus, or Chevy Cobalt.

On the pricier wish list go with the Mercedes-that's a cool car.
