Sempron is AMD product and as for celeron it's Intel product ,both of them are lower end cup's compared to the technology we have today. The diff between solo core and dual core is that in solocore the core of the CPU is single hence overlapping cannot be done, while as the name suggests in dual core the cpu has two cores i it each can work seperatley and in conjunction to on another to give a better performance.Pentium was the cpu developed my Intel specially for laptop as it's power consumption and heat dissipation is very less compared to normal cup's which we use in desktops.
Now the question I am sure that is bothering you is which one to choose.Well then my friend the answer lies in the question itself, what do you want to do! what applications will be running on ur laptop/desktop.
Foe a laptop with not heavy applications and a bit of gaming I think Intel core duo will be good(but I prefer AMD turion).

Sempron and Celeron are very low level processors, they're great and cheap for people that only check e-mails and do some light applications.

Turion 64x2 and Core 2 Duo are more for multi tasking and quicker on-demand processing. They're faster and more expensive. They are where your average laptop buyer will be looking. Either one is good, they both do well in performance tests.

I personally prefer AMD, which would be the Turion line-up. Intel's Core 2 Duo is more popular though, and since Intel made it more people are interested in that.

Sempron and Celeron are the cheapest. They are also the lower-end of processors developed by AMD and Intel, respectively, and won't run as fast as the other higher end processors. Turion is a higher end processor from AMD, and it compares somewhat to Pentium M and Solo Core. Core 2 Duo is the newest by Intel and it's also the fastest, but also the most expensive.

for a labtop right now the cheap and good would be the core duo,, that is not the core 2 duo which is the new one, although if you need the processing power and can pay a bit more get a core 2 duo. you can check out the cpu section of www.tomshardware.com for some benchmarks and testing so you can see yourself.

Go to www.intel.com and read about the difference by yourself.

Read, understand and decide upon it. Because others can influence to make decisions to buy laptops but at the end of day, you alone make the decisions and face the consequences.

You have missed 'Centrino' technology.

Even in your personal life, you are influenced by others to make the decisions. You should understand that every person actions influence every other person actions in this world.

You will be influenced by sales person, friend, relative but the choice is yours. You make the choice and face the consequences.
