Which of those toasters crashes most often, needs repair every other week and has the fewer games worth a damn?

There have been people who have had a string of failures on the 360 (though it sounds like subsequent problems are often the result of them refurbishing the defective units to send back for any warranty claims), but it sounds like newer units are having a much lower failure rate than the systems sold shortly after launch. The Wii and PS3 have both had failure issues, but none as big as the 360 did back in 2005/early 2006, and Nintendo has been pretty good about taking care of widespread problems, while Microsoft has increased their warranty period to a full year (retroactive for those who bought before the announcement, and including refunds of repair costs that were incurred within the extended warranty period). Sony, on the other hand, has not been as nice about their customer service.

As for games, the 360 has a fairly solid library of standard fare hi-def games built up, being over a year out of the gate. The Wii has some really solid hits straight off of launch, with the promise of some really innovative game opportunities (think about how well the DS has taken off with the handheld market and apply the same creative design to the console market), though the games are leaning more towards a broader appeal than your typical FPS/Driving/Sports fare. The PS3 has been losing platform exclusives to the 360 or to multi-platform releases due to low sales. Between the high cost of buy-in on the platform, and the mass exodus of 3rd-Party exclusive game developers, they're going to have a hard time selling the system in general, which is only going to keep the game devs from looking at the PS3 as a viable platform. In addition to this, the PS3 is no more powerful than the 360, but has a more complicated architecture which will be a lot harder to program for, so the only thing you'll really get out of it is the ability to play expensive Blu-Ray discs in addition to much more affordable DVDs.

I'd suggest either getting a Wii for the more varied gameplay, or the 360 if you care more about graphics, or both to get the best of both worlds. Skip the PS3 for now. In a year or two, if Sony's managed to salvage the platform, improve the internal architecture (there are valid concerns about heat dissipation with the gigantic power supply being crammed into the console with everything else) and cut the price by $200, then it might be worth looking at the PS3 as a worthwhile investment.

i would say the 360, ive had to try and fix 3 (1 of my own) because the gpu chip wasnt seated properly beacause of how hot the 360 gets it heats up the solder and lifts from the board.

the 360 only comes with a 3 month warranty, altho u can purchase more warranty its still stupid, the wii and ps3 comes with 12 months standard...

wii hasnt got many games atm but i love those games that come with it. 360 have some great games tho but if u want a working machine to play it on then just gotta get lucky

I would have to go with the Wii, the 360 has had almost all the small glitches and problems worked out so it barely crashes.

I have also witnessed some PS3 crashes, mainly because of over heating.

i own the wii and the ps3 and i love them both. i have only played the 360 a couple of times and i wasnt to crazy about it. i guess every system has its advantages. i do know the wii has the worst graphics out of the three. but it is so much fun. and i used to be one of those people who made fun of people who bought the wii. not i cant imagine not having one. and the graphics on the ps3 are beautiful. i mean, the 360 looks cool and all, i am just so sick of hearing halo halo halo. oh yea, and gears of war gears of war gears of war. the game looks ok but not as good as people would want you to believe

ps3 sucks, and wii sucks but the wii is actually doing better than the ps3, so that shows how much the ps3 sucks, the best one is the xbox 360
