Actually, if you're wanting to make a "big" cube that's clear, you'd probably want a polyester "casting" resin rather than an epoxy resin. Polyesters are two parts too, but there only a small amount of one part (the catalyst) is added to the other part (epoxy resin is mixed one-to-one).

Epoxy resins are usually not deeper than about 1/2" thick and that needs to be done in about 4 layers, each of which has to cure for around a day.
Polyester resins can be poured much deeper, and at one time. Even so, it's kind of tricky to do if you haven't done it before, especially for something large.

Lacquer is NOT transparent. It may appear transparent when very thin but if you have a large block of it you will soon find it blocks light and is either yellow or brown, (most likely). If you want a large block, epoxy is the way to go. The only way I can think of the get a block of lacquer is to slowly build it up, layer by layer. That is EXTREMELY time intensive and you are talking thousands of layers. If you did one layer every 15 minutes (insufficient drying time in reality), 1000 layers would take about 250 hours of production time. If each layer was 1/32 inch, that would make the lacquer 31.25 inches. That would be almost 10.5 days for a 31.25 inch thickness.
An expoxy block would be ready in maybe 24 hours at the longest. I would believe 8 hours would be a better estimate. And it would be transparent as glass, if done correctly.
