My baby does the same thing - she is 7 months. For a couple of days no poo, then the next day she has poops all day! I have found that if I give her a jar of Heinz fruit gel it helps it come along - (just the pureed fruit or gel for 4 month old bubbies). Make sure you are making his formula correctly too, not to much powder in the water.

Is his stomach hard? Have you tried calling his pediatrician? My son did this when he was around 3-4 months old, I called his pediatrician and they suggested diluted pear, apple, or white grape juice (1/2 juice and 1/2 water). They said if that didn't work, to use suppositories or the baby thermometer. I was to barely stick the end of either in his little bottom. Then about 10-20 minutes later, he pooped, and boy did he! Now, the pediatrician also said that if that didn't work, to bring him in. It's very important that they have a bowel movement at least once a day. Anyway, I hope everything turns out all right. Good luck!

They can sometimes go a week without a BM and be okay. All 3 of my sons went through this. We actually put a teaspoon of Dark Karo syrup in their bottles and did the infant suppositories which is immediate relief for them. I usually did the suppositories as a last resort if nothing else worked. Sometimes evening putting a thermoter in his bottom will stimulate his bowels to go. If none of this works I would definitely get in touch with his doctor. I wouldn't be too worried right now if I were you, it's very common.

I would ask your pediatrician. My son at 10 weeks had this problem. He didn't have a bowel movement for 2 days, by day 3 I was worried. So I took him to see his pediatrician, they gave him a suppository & changed his formula... ever since then he goes 2-3 times a day.

Stop the water, it has no nutritional value... stick woth formula or breast milk. Now, both of my kids have dealt with constipation, its not fun for neither the parent, nor the child. Is his tummy hard? Have you noticed him trying to poop with no end result? What ALWAYS works for my kids is a tablespoon of brown sugar in an 8 oz bottle of warm water. It works as a laxative and its not medicine or anything he could become dependant upon to poop, which is true of stool softeners and laxatives. Don't feed him bananas...thats a constipator. Try giving him some prunes out of the baby food jar, see if that helps. If, still, none of these things work, then I would take him in to see your family doctor as thins could lead to problems if you can't fix it at home. Good Luck

My son went through this.. it actually gotten so bad that his little stomach was hard and he was gassy with it.. I knew he was constipated and took him to the hospital.. they did x-rays and seen he was indeed constipated and perscribed over the counter infant suppositories and told me to change his formula.. I went through all kinds of formula, nothing would work, I finally found one that did, and it was the most expensive, it was enfamil nutramigen, and it worked wonder's.. after I started him on that he was fine.. I would suggest that if it doesn't get better talk to your pediatrician and ask if he thinks it could be a possibility of his formula... but if he doesn't have a bowel movement soon, i would take him to the E.R.... to be on the safe side ya know... babies little bodies are very fragile.. but good luck.

It is normal for formula fed babies not to stool every day, up to 4 days is considered normal.
If he is not in pain then leave him alone before you cause diarhea or more serious side effects.
Umm and breastfeeding women aren't allowed to take coloxyl are you sure it is safe for babies?

DO NOT GIVE YOUR POOR 5 MONTH OLD LAXATIVES OR SAPOSATORIES!!
Call his pediatrician. If he wants to give sapoatories or laxatives get a new doctor!
Using such things at such a young age can cause your child to become dependant on them to have a bowel movement!
As long as his belly isn't hard and he's eating well, not vomitting acts as if he feels okay then he's fine. When he does have a bowel movement it should be soft.
Call his doc.

Did you consult with your pediatrician? Is his belly hard? If you have not gone to his pediatrician you should, and if his belly is hard and he's uncomfortable you should take him in NOW or at least to the urgency room. My son has problems with constipation and early on the doctor told me to give him diluted pear juice and as time progressed, Stage 1 Pears; he also prescribed glycerin suppositories and poo induction with the thermometer. But do NOT self-prescribe anything to your baby without consulting your doctor. You may inadvertently do more harm than good.

You can try using a rectal thermometer - sometimes when you pull it out a little "present" will come along with it. If that doesn't work I'd call your doctor. I wouldn't try suppositories at this age without consulting a doctor first.
