We have a washing machine that is six months old. The inside smells incredibly musty, so even after washing clothes, the clothes have this musty odor. What can we do to get rid of this smell? We leave the lid open all the time, but no luck. Is there some sort of cleaner?

Try these techniques :
The first thing to do is to check to be sure that there are no mechanical problems with the washer. First be sure there are no drainage problems and no problems with the actual operation of the cycles. Bleach should in fact kill any mildew so there may be a problem with water not draining completely from the washer or the drainage system.
We have also heard of people running a load with a cup or two of white vinegar to rinse out the machine.

This may sound strange, but it WILL work. Run your washing machine as if you were going to do a load of clothes, only don't put any clothes in. Just add Clorox bleach and let it go through the complete wash cycle and let it dry. The bleach will kill any bacteria or mold that's in there and causing the smell.

Make sure you take your wet laundry out as soon as it is done. That will help with the smell. And make sure not to over fill it with clothes, that they have enough room to move around, this will help in the rinsing.
Just to clean your washer try running it on a medium load with hot water and bleach. That should cut down the odor

Try ammonia. Its inexpensive and it really works. Add 1/2 cup of ammonia to a full load of clothes to remove strong odors and help brighten. Or run your washing machine on an empty cycle with 1 cup of ammonia. Should help.

vinegar, baking soda, or a good cup full of clorox in a small wash load of water and hot water, but dont put anything in there other than old rags if you are going to wash anything. if that doesnt do it i suspect that your washer is not draining all the way, which may mean the pump that pushes water out of the house, is wearing out. that water gets really nasty smelling.

I WOULD TRY RUNNING BAKING SODA IN A CYCLE AND SEE IF THAT HELPS-IF NOT, I WOULD CALL A REPAIR MAN AND HAVE HIM CHECK BETWEEN THE DRUM AND THE FRAME ITSELF TO SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING (LIKE A SOCK OR SOMETHING) THAT MIGHT OF GOTTEN STUCK AND IS WET AND MUSTY THAT IS CAUSING THE SMELL-A WASHER THAT NEW SHOULD NOT BE DOING THAT.

rub a lemon slice on the insides of your washing machine tumbler..then soak a piece of cloth in vinegar and rub the surfaces again. wait for abt 5 minutes and wash off with hot water. .. hope this helps.

do a load of whites in hot water and bleach. Also some front loader manufacturer recommends a "freshen up" procedure consisting of running it empty with hot water and granular dish washing detergent.

I would run a few washes with bleach. From there I would make sure to quickly change loads so it won't happen going forward.
