there are several ways you can try:

you can try finding someone as old as you kid and bring them together, start with small steps, if you kid has succed on making one friend your kid might get some confindence in having more.

Also have tried to see whether your kid is being beaten up at school by other kids or something like that? This might effect on your kids behaviour. If so how to handle the situation is totally up to you.

I also agree with the others that some sport will help your kid gain friends, but it has to be a team sport, like football or voli or hoki or baseball.

YOu need to give your kid some confidence in their abilities, being afraid of communicating with others is because of the lack of confidence he/she has in herself.

I hope that helped

You are never going to intrinsically change the child's disposition, what you need to change is how the child views socialization. Enlist the help of the teacher. The child may be overwhelmed with being expected to deal with large groups if they have no experience with that. The parent should have given them some opportunities with this as soon as they were toddlers. The process would be helping them find a friend to deal with one on one then add people to the group of friends gradually.

well im not sure how old the child is but....it sounds to me like the child you're speaking of might have a low self-esteem. so i think the first thing you should go for is making this kid feel better about themselves. you can verbally praise them, or slowly introduce them to more public activities. the idea is to get them to feel comfortable sharing their ideas and feelings as well as feeling ok to ask how someone else feels and what they think. good luck with the child hopefully things can change.

I think you should let your child engage in some recreational activites or hobbies or sports that interest him/her. That's a good start to make him socialize and get used to being with people.
