Listen to the candidates speak and the positions they take on various issues. Support whichever candidate you feel would do the best job for the country. If, over time, you find you typically support one party candidate versus another, then you may want to identify yourself as a democrat or a republican. But, there is no need to rush into anything.

You don't have to decide on either until you know more about each party and its candidates. I am registered as as "Independent" voter--and go with my beliefs on each individual issue and candidate.
You can do a search on the Democratic Party and on the Repulblican Party. Read about each, and see if you really side much more with one than the other.
There are people who vote for every candidate and every bill supported by "their" party. Then there are those who take each candidate and bill, learn much about them, and vote where their hearts and heads take them.
Even if you find that you are absolutely in favor of one of the parties due to an issue or a candidate you are for--it doesn't mean that you have to register with that party, nor does it mean you have to vote for everything that party has on the ballot.
I hope that this has helped a bit.

You should be a free thinking American. You should write down the following : Health care, Taxes, Education and social security. Record the current rhetoric of the candidates and put it away in a safe place. In 30 years pull it out and and review the current political stands - You will find that nothing has changed, yet they will keep feeding the same rhetoric to the American people.

If you have an IQ over 3, then you are a republican...JUST KIDDING...lighten up people. Just claim yourself as an idependant and then you can believe whatever you want. Don't get caught up in this crap. Right now there are so many issues with politics. I am surprised there hasnt been a civil way. None of them are concerned with working together to solve issues...they are more concerned with how many of one or the other is elected.

Democrats are more help the people, government programs and stuff. Republicans more one man for himself. Democrats yeah on abortion, repubs no. Dems yes on gun control, repubs no. Dems no on war, repubs yes. Dems abortion yes, repubs no. Not all of these are exact though, some politicians are for or against things outside of their parties general beliefs. Me, I'm in the middle, prolly more dem than repub.

If you feel as if the govt should be doing more for the lower class, you tend to support raising the minimum wage, you might agree with things like abortion or stem cell research, you probably oppose the war in the middle east: Democrat.
If you are all about the value of your dollar in the market, if you tend to care about tax breaks for the upper class, you may be pro-life, pro-war, and against stem cell research: Republican.
But there are a lot of grey areas....

I don't really think it matters which party you're affiliatted with, it only matters which party stands for your beliefs more. The biggest things are same sex marriages, abortion, and basically any other moral issues. Democrats stand for same sex marriages and pro abortion while republicans are against same sex marriages and pro life.

There are some simple tests:
Are you myoptic? Short sighted? Blurred Vision, or blind?
If so, you're a Democ=rat.
Are you an overaged Hippy still hung up on Free Sex, drugs, and anti-war propaganda?
If so, you're a Democ-rat.
Are you a coward, and have no sense of internal discipline, morals, ethics, nor religions?
Then you're a Democ-rat.
Would you rather get free money from the government than use your own creativity, hard work, and individualism to make a self-made fortune?
Then you're a Democ=rat.
Do you want Peace, Love, and Universal Health Care, even though that means the loss of our children's futures, our soveignty, our prosperity, all in the sake of Commie Anti-Bush Propaganda?
Demo!
Have you sworn to "Preserve, Protect, and Defend the Constitution of the US, against ALL enemies, to include Hillary, both foreign and Domestic?"
THEN you are Republican.

Your heart should tell you. But first of all your mind has to be open enough to think outside the box. You're already convinced that you have to be one of those two. You could also be Independent, or neither.
Both sides definately has serious issues.
