Hostel is not scary just gory. Just try some suspenseful movies like "The Others". That might be a good one to try out.
I also watched a preview for a new movie called "The Reaping". It is about end times.

There is a movie coming up called The Messengers that looks like it can be pretty good.
I'm very picky about horror movies... movies that go for blood, gore, and cheap "make you jump" moments are boring to me. Not too many decent horror movies out there... most are remakes of movies I've already seen growing up in the 70s and 80s or have rented in my horror fandom research :) Hmm... recent stuff...I did see Emily Rose, and that was a decent movie. Skeleton Key was pretty decent as well (although if you are an astute movie tv watcher and are good at outthinking the writer, the ending might not be a complete surprise to you).
If you rent movies a lot, you might want to look at the original Asian movies that they have done remakes of, or Asian horror films that have come out on dvd but not in theaters over here. IF you saw and liked The Ring for instance, you should check out Ringu, Ju-On (the Grudge movies), The Eye, Audition... or others that look appealing to you. Right now I think the Asian market is coming out with the best horror right now.

well Hostel doesnt have a Rape scene but it does have alot of sexual stuff in it but it does have alot of gore and it kinda creeped me out and thats the 1st movie to acctually do that to me in awile. so Hostel is probably a good choice it just depends on how you think of sex and stuff like that. The Others is anouther good one im sure people already recommended it, The Hills Have Eyes.. well that does have a small Rape scene in it and i didnt think it was that great but others have told me it scared the poo out of them... Texas Chainsaw Massacre is anouther one that people said was a great horror film but again im gonna have to say it wasnt that great and i wasnt scared durng it.. the original movie The Exorcist was pretty creepy if you liked The Exorcism of Emily Rose you will probably like The Exorcist if you havent seen it yet. The Blair Witch Project does have alittle creepyness in it. especially if you like to go camping

Hostel's OK, not nearly as gory as the premise might suggest. Some newer stuff that I've enjoyed:
ALTERED-Alien-abduction story from one of the guys who did BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.
SATAN'S LITTLE HELPER-Fun mean-spirited slasher from the guy who directed the great BLUE SUNSHINE.
THE TOOLBOX MURDERS-Remake by Tobe Hooper, not great, but not bad.
And they're not really new anymore, but MAY and SESSION 9 were great.
