Ok, some friends of mine who know more music then I do have said I sound a bit flat when I sin, though they admit I have a nice voice. They have a hard time explaining it to me on what it is. I want to know what exactly it is, and how can I overcome this? PLEEEEEEEEEAS HELP?!!!!!! Any links to someone who is flat with an explaination will help. Examples are best to learn from!

ok, american Idol is AWESOME....but I don't understand which ones are flat voices......And I know I suck....horribly....I just want to understand the flat thing.....thx

You are not hitting the right note. It's like the black keys on a keyboard (which are called flats and sharps). Instead of hitting the white note, you are hitting the black one to the left of it.

Sometimes it is hard to hear our own singing voice from inside our heads, because we hear it from within instead of just from our ear. One thing you can do to help is find a tube, any flexible tube will work. Sing into one end, and place the other end near your ear.

Listen to notes in a song or on a keyboard, then try to sing them. With the tube, you should be able to more clearly hear how your pitch differs from the actual notes. This should help you correct your pitch.
