You know, if you don't put it in and your wife's feet get cold you could be in big trouble. : )

I guess the answer would depend on what is under the kitchen floor. Is there a basement? Is it on a slab? What area of the country do you live in? Yes, tile will be colder that vinyl, but if you have a warm basement, or live in a warm climate, it might not be a big deal. If you basement is cool, it might not be a bad idea. It is controlled by a thermostat, so you can regulate the temperature.

I have ceramic tile in my kitchen and boy is it ever COLD! I hate going barefoot in there. My feet FREEZE! I have to have on slippers or shoes. At least socks, but they still get chilly with socks. So, if you can afford it, YES! If not, get your slippers ready! And, if your like me, your in there alot between cooking and cleaning up. That's also where I fold my laundry. I sometimes think I should put a couch and tv in there for me! LOL! But, yes, they are very cold in the winter. They feel kinda nice in the summer though. They stay fairly cool all summer.

i live in chicago area and installed heating in my bathroom on the lower level. It's great.
So it depends on where you live, if the floor is cold normally
You only have to heat the center area or the area in front of the sink or stove or under the table. They are adjustable also. I have'nt noticed any increase in my electric bill.
There are other tricks like putting a air vent right in front of the sink, extended out to the base of the kick.

It depends on the area of the country you live in (Are there Many Cold Mornings?) The neighbor hood (will it increasae the resale value) your family situation (Do you have small children?) and how the room is ti be used (Do you live in the kitchen, or is it not really used?)

I have had in floor radient heatign before, and I miss it terribly because we have small Children, and we live in our kitchen. Also, we live in the Midwest USA, where we have cold winters.

The cost of running that is outrageous not to mention the initial cost. I'd spend my money on a nice pair of house shoes or socks.

If you have a basement make sure the vents are open underneath....that would help a lot.....otherwise I wouldn't

If you have solar power on the roof it will offset the expense.

My friend has these and loves them.
