You can buy a 1GB stick of memory as an upgrade. The type of ram is either:
PC2700 DDR SDRAM DIMM
or
PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM
There are a few good places to find ram at a decent price: newegg, tigerdirect, zipzoomfly to name a few.
Your user's manual should be able to tell you how to install new memory.
Buying ram for your computer is one of the fastest ways to speed up your computer. Also, make sure that you don't have your computer "bogged" down with a bunch of stuff that you don't use. More hard drive space can speed up your computer too.
I hope my answer was helpful.

yeah... defo i have an inspiron 2200 and runs like a dream with windows 7. But like the other guy has said, vista will slow it down something rotten... i also have a computer which vista was preinstalled onto and its slow!!! lol always crashing... but that might be because of the actual OS not the computers spec. But yeah like ya man said... upgrade the memory if low... crucial is a good make for memory and is very cheap i have bought some before for my desktop and works really well. a 1gb stick came to about 14 quid and i think i got 667mhz from it.... :s dont quote me on that... its been years since i upgraded that desktop lol :)

Exactly. Memory is the cheapest and simplest upgrade to boost any computer's speed. BE SURE to buy the same type of memory, and its advised that you dont mix brands, another tip when buying memory is to buy in pairs as well. So if I were you I'd crack open your case look inside to see how many open RAM slots you have and buy a pair of new ones. You'll love the improvement!
Oh and of course, if you arent at all confident with "cracking open" your PC, call Dell, and if you can provide them with the make and model of your PC, they can provide you with how expandable it is, and exactly what it needs to upgrade.

Download this free and safe program called Advanced Window Care, I've had great luck with it. Yes, more RAM helps, but it would just be it needs a good old clean up and optimization. One thing, do you have allot of programs in your Systems Tray (where the time is, bottom far left)? That sucks down the resources. Chow
