I can't think of a really good word for it, but I am thinking that you mean someone who has the strength of character to carry on trying even when they have suffered a severe setback and are unlikely to win.

Have you seen the movie 'Chariots of Fire', when the Scottish runner was tripped by a competitor early in a 400m run? He didn't stay down, he got up and ran for his life, still trying to win.

They call it 'great heart' or 'strength of character'. There may be better words for it - I will add them if something comes to me!

If you actually know it is wrong, I don't think it is going to be a virtue, on the contrary... If you are talking about religion, when you know something is wrong and you do it, that is call a sin, specially if you do it being absolutley free to choose it.
