My picks: First, Texas. Second (by a longshot, but I still love it,) North Carolina.

Texas: some of the friendliest people anywhere; huge, thriving cities (D/FW, Austin, San Antonio, Houston,) great job market, eclecticism in Austin, history in San Antonio and Ft. Worth, beaches, mountains, prairies, deserts, corn nuggets, Houston Astros, a great state! And the women...wow!

North Carolina: Away from the yankee enclaves (Fayetteville, Raleigh, and Charlotte,) it's still a pretty friendly state. There is a lot to do--NASCAR, Asheville, the Biltmore, Outer Banks, hiking, Smoky Mountains, etc. The prettiest of the three states!

Kentucky, while beautiful, is no hotbed of economic growth and progessive thinking. The politicians have helped to prohibit growth and development. People are, by and large, guarded and frankly hateful (especially Louisville); small towns are very sheltered and closed off to "the outside." I'm a native who has NEVER felt comfortable or at home there.

I don't know which would be first or second, but Kentucky would deffinitly be last. I rode up through Ky this summer from middleboro, corbin then up to lexington and they were very rude...I also know ones who live there that says the same thing. I see your a native from there...can you email me and tell me why you think Ky is that way? The neighboring states seens to be nice, I would think that they would rub off on Ky.

Being a community, i like Texas, yet (please do not strike me lifeless for this) i think of i like Utah even better. it is sooooo appropriate with the majestic mountains. it is an somewhat family members-friendly ecosystem and that i won't be able to think of raising my little ones everywhere else. nonetheless, I pass over the southern hospitality, the uber-friendly human beings and the etiquitte of the south (ma'am, sir). Oh, and the timber. human beings think of Texas is dry and barren. fairly the different is genuine. Love North Carolina and California. in no way been to Kentucky. I additionally love southern Florida.

I'd say North Carolina because it is a nice state with a lot of history things to do. Texas is also a nice place and the cost of living is really reasonable.
