Hey Dude,

Here is a great resource for interface speeds. They talk about SATA and USB and firewire, and the differences of each.

in terms of external hard drives,
they're all more or less USB2 driven, making file transfer simple and fast.

i'd recommend Maxtor external hard drives (I use one myself :>, and i've found it quite reliable, no random errors or anything)

you'd be looking for something over 200 gigabytes, my ext hdd is 250 and i got it quite a while ago so something at about the 250-300 gigabyte range. The prices are under $200 by now.

The hard disk drives do not require installation (thanks to USB), just plugging it up into your computers would be fine, leave the File System alone, it should be FAT32, which is compatible for windows/linux and mac operating systems

usually you'd be getting the harddrive, a plug and an adaptor (to convert it into a 9V source ? i think.), in terms of accessories, there's a handy carry case you can buy

It would be hard to pick a brand for the best external hard drive technology but may I suggest trying out bestbuy.com or ebay.com for great deals.
