i need to write a 3 page essay on the theme of superstition in macbeth. what i have now are some of the example of superstition in macbeth such as the horses killing one another, banquo's ghost, and the three witches. what else do i need to write about so that it will be about 3 pages? i only have 1 page so far. help please!!
oh and please dont give me those free essays on the internet.

Well, here's some ideas that may help. Macbeth & Lady Macbeth are so superstitious, that they scoff at some of the predictions made by the witches, and so, in trying to avoid fulfilling the predictions, they take the actions that actually lead them down that path. In other words, they believe that they are "destined" for the crown, and are willing to kill, to "fulfill" the prophecy. But, in doing so, they deny their own free will. As human beings, we are never "doomed" to a certain course of action because of a "prediction" or "prophecy"; a person can always assert their free will. But, because Macbeth IS actually superstitious, he believes that having committed one crime, he might as well plunge into more bloodletting, and then arrogantly tries to defy the witches' predictions.
It's not for nothing, that when the witches hear Macbeth & his companions arriving in the woods, that one of them says, "By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes..." -- referring to Macbeth being more wicked than the witches.
You may consider picking out some of the superstitions in the play, and compare them to present-day ones. Or, consider how supersitions of today, hold people back from doing what they know is the right thing to do.

Hmm... I had to read Macbeth last year. I don't quite remember it, but didn't the weather foreshadow when bad things would happen? Heh...maybe that's a different book, but Shakespeare does often do that. I guess it would sort of fit under superstition. What about destiny and prophecies? Doesn't the play toy with that too? I think you could probably expand on the witches a lot too....
