No, it's not really "un-American". A lot of people in America play soccer as kids and some may watch it occassionally (meaning, they aren't bored by it, but they can't watch it for two hours straight). Interest just hasn't become as big in soccer as in other American sports.

Actually it is your destiny to become a big soccer fan....now kneel before the soccer ball. I'm kidding.
So seeing how soccer is older and its international I would forget about nations and just let yourself catch the best fever in the world. This is about the planet baby not about these unnatural barriers man has put into effect. Let your love grow beyond borders and category. Watch soccer from other nations to really catch the spirit first. Try German, English , African, Spanish, Argentine, Brazillian, Mexican, Italian, French, Dutch, Colombian etc. it doesn''t matter just try it my man.
Soccer is about being able to attend to one quest...to concentrate on one objective.
You would have failed at school had you not tried to understand things that you learned right? Well give soccer a chance, give it some attention, really learn about it and study it and you'll come out on the other side a new man. Its like watching people dance, with a ball of course. I'm a German so its just in my blood. I love fussball! Give it a try.
Peace and blessings, Matt

Its hard for me to understand why people inject that thought into national media. If you love sports, you will love soccer. Theres a big difference between a true sports fan and a drunken fat redneck who cares more about painting his enlarged belly and getting blackout after their teams wins, than the actual beauty of the game.

Liking something completely different than the societal norm is one of the many benefits of living in America. We are in a society where we can choose freely. In hindsight, not liking soccer because someone said it's un-American is one of the most un-American things you can do.
