I had a '94 Suburban that did that, and I was able to crawl into the back and remove the door panel from the inside and reconnect a linkage that fell off. (LUCKY)

Go to a junk yard, and look for a 1990 Astro Van, then explain your problem to the junker, and he will help you. That is least expensive then going to the dealer, and/or purchasing a new one.

You will need an outside door handle latch assembly. You will have to drill out the rivots from the outside and proceed to replace from there. Good luck.
