Is it that they are so fed up with society that they reach a boiling point and they just snap? I mean I get really angry sometimes at this world, but I don't think I would do something like that.

I don't thinksomeone "Snaps" as such. I think that who-ever it is that you are referring to, has harboured a grudge for some actual or imagined happening, over time they have looked for and found (real or Imagined) reinforcement of their grudge.

They become focussed on the grudge and the remedy, they start thinking about how to "GET BACK" . They think of more and more ways, til they find the most "satisfying to them" way to even the score, then they focus the mind to plan and actually carry out the deed, without thinking of consequences, or of the hurt to innocent people, the mission is to accomplish the revenge, nothing else comes into it.
