So I have a right triangle with the following sides

12 , 8, and X

How do I find X when I am supposed to answer in simplified radical form

You should use the Pythagorean Theorem

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 where c is the hypotenuse while a and b are the legs of the triangle

so assuming x is the hypotenuse
Say x = c

8^2 + 12^2 = c^2
c = √ ( 64 + 144)
c = √.208
c = 14.42
