Uh, you mean "people"? (There's a spell check right there, you know.)

What people?

Not all people are brand minded (by which I assume you mean they always buy a particular brand -- manufacturer's label -- of goods; if you mean something else, delete this question, and try again, asking in such a way as we have a chance of knowing what you're talking about).

As for why brand-minded people worship the brands they do, it probably varies (here's where specifics also would have helped your question).

Sometimes it's habit. That's the brand of toothpaste Mom got. So that's what you reach for. It's familiar; you know what it is.

Advertisers are often after "brand loyalty" -- once people get used to picking up that thing, they'll tend to go for it in the future.

Which is why so many ads have nothing to do with the actual product.

Sometimes it has to do with loyalty -- in a sense. I've always bought a [manufacturer's car] and they've always done right by me, so that's what I'll do in the future.

As though there were a relationship.

Or are you asking something more specific, like the "In" brand of purse, shoes, clothes, whatever?

I've wondered this myself. I can't help thinking of such people as a bunch of sheep being manipulated to spend gazillions of dollars for a 20 dollar item.

Somehow, the people who profit from those brands have managed to convince people that there's some value to them.

And all those fools go along.

It's like everyone agrees to pretend (against their own best self-interest) that there's some cosmic superiority to the thing, and they all willingly become slaves to it.

Myself, no one has ever mistaken me for a fashion maven, so I'm not in the best position to explain it. Don't really get it myself.

And I buy generic, when they're available and identical to the "name brands" -- cause it's the same thing, but cheaper.

It's what advertised in the media so it's popular. People seem to feel a certain way when they wear brand names but it's a fallacy. A false image.
