Men are convicted much more than women. I don't remember the statistics but there is a huge disparity. I would estimate that about 4 men get convicted for every woman if I remember correctly.

Historically in the western world women have been convicted less often than men and have also recieved far lighter sentences. However that is starting to change. Womens convictions have been steadily on the rise as well as the number of women who are incarcerated for long periods of time. Women are slowly catching up to men in this regard although there is still somewhat of a large gap.
