about 15 years ago will get me turned around in the airport?

If the crime was committed in the US, Mexico does not care unless you are running from the law.
If you are a felon and are not permitted to leave the US you may get arrested in your return to the US.

There would be more of a problem getting on the plane and leaving the US then getting off the plane and entering another country.

It might depend on the crime on the record, but if one is around and about, I would guess that the time was served and probably no big problem.

no, they dont run your background check , you have a current passport you will be fine. for more info on passport issue go to http://greatparnassusresort.com and on the home page toward the bottom is the link to the offical passport site and government issue when flying

Did you already do your time for the crime? If so and your crime doesn't harm national security, I don't see why they would not let you go to Mexico :D.
