Never put your laptop on top of something that prevents the escape of heat and intake of air beause that's how the laptop cools its components. Putting it on your crotch is also a bad idea, since it ruins both the computer components and you. If it's a pillow for you, then whatever pillow that makes you feel most at home.

If you're putting the laptop on it, none. Laptops normally have vents on the bottom because thats where the heat is. If your laptop has a vent on the bottom its either for air to go in or to jet out. Stopping the flow of air could overheat your computer.
If you're using it to lay down, well, whatever pillow is comfortable.
