Well, first, respect is EARNED, not deserved. Second, I decide whether to like or dislike a person on an individual basis, not as an age group. I know a lot of teen-aged persons. Most of them are quite decent people. There are a few I'd like to kick, but that goes for chronological adults, too. The teen-agers who don't fit the stereotype are the ones who will rule the world in a few years, and that's a good thing. They are just not as noisy and obvious as the bad ones.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) teens are something that have been around for thousands of years. The same stereotypes you're complaining about are the same ones your parents dealt with as well.
Teens are only made out to be a bunch of idiots because 75% of them ARE idiots that breed like bunnies. While you may not be that teen who gets drunk or sleeps with the football team, you have to prove yourself to the rest of the world.
When I was a teen I was a goody-goody, and I learned that stereotypes don't go away when you turn 20. In the working world you still have stereotypes and people who judge you.
It's not society who degrades you, it's the way society works in general.

There are some mature teens, and then there are teens that shouldn't be allowed to leave the house. It's all in how the parents and the community raise them to be. I've seen bad kids and have wanted to beat the parents, not them, because of how they are raised. Just like when I see tiny little kids playing on the street and no parent around I want to stop and whip the parents @$$ for being a dimwit!

The unfortunate thing is because of a few bad kids, kids in general are treated the same. Guilty until proven innocent. I have 3 teenagers and I try to respect them. But society in general, in my opinion, doesn't. It is going to take a long time before it is remedied. Keep being yourself. Show the rest of the world what you already know. You are a good and valuable person, who is going to make a difference to mankind. GOOD LUCK in your life's journey. And I'd change from using oxymoron.

I'm almost 14 and I think that we do diserver more respect. I think that people give us steirotypes because of what we look like, what they have seen in moves and how we act. Most of it isnt true; most of it is just as accurate about placeing the lable "popular" on other ppl at school. I also think that people steirotype us because we do things that are correct, but ppl arnt educated enuff, so they think were stupid; for example, I got yelled at for rideing my bike in the street, WHERE I WAS SUPPOSTO RIDE, and she told me that she would call the cops if I didnt go ride on the sidewalk. I dont know how to end thins so...the end,... i guess...

I think like most other stereotypes, some fit the description and some don't. A lot of teens I know don't get the respesct they deserve, but at the same time some get more than they deserve.

I felt that way at your age too. Don't worry about what anyone thinks. You might find that judgements never go away, no matter how old you are. we're all just jealous because you are at an exciting time in your life (and we don't want you to screw it up).
thing is, by the time you are 18, its likely you will have had sex, tried drugs, or played into some other stereotype. anywho...enough babbling from me.

Some of them too. I wasn't a bad teen either but people always stereotype. I'm glad my teens are over but good luck with yours. Don't let stereotypes stop you from having fun.

NO! Teens today are usually out of control especially from about 12 to...whenever they pull their heads out and wake up. Times are much worse, drugs, sex problems, having babies, and especially their attitudes! Kids today are disrespectful to EVERYONE and they expect to get respect from anyone and everyone. Most of them need a good spanking and their parents should have done that years ago!!! Let me tell you something, little girl, IF YOU WANT RESPECT, YOU HAVE TO EARN IT!!! Respect yourself and others, and then maybe you will earn what you truly deserve! You know what else, you guys are HORRIBLE role models for the younger kids! It terrifies me to think that someday soon, you little brats will be in charge of our world! G-D HELP US!!!
