im in my early 30s, as a teen i was skipped from 7th to 9th grade but i ended up dropping out of high school twice. (long story) I eventually got my GED 10 years after i was supposed to graduate. I went to a community college 3yrs after i got the GED, i only took 2 classes because i was working (math and english) then i dropped out of college. A year later i enrolled in a trade school for HVAC (air conditioning) for a 9 month program..i did graduate. However, i ended up not liking that field and went into something else. Now, im not satisfied with my life and i want to get a bachelors degree but im afraid i may fail and at my age failure isnt an option. in high school, i was a C or D student (closer to a D avg. and got alot of Fs). I dont want live like this and i feel getting a degree is my only hope. what should i do? i have a wife and several kids..how can i succeed? who do i need to consult? who can help me?! PLEASE HELP!

Your lacking motivation from my opinion. Find something that makes life exciting so that you push forward no matter what. You don't have a mental problem. If you want, you can talk to a counselor to figure out what you want to do with your life. It will make things much easier for you. Too much pressure somewhere in your life.

There are scholarships available make sure you ask the financial aid department a whichever college you choose to pursue. Once you are a student you are eligible for student services such as disability testing and you will have to go through a series of tests. Then you may find that you are given special testing situations. However, in the real world you will find that most employers are not going to give you accomodations for learning disabilities. It sounds to me like you need to make a choice and follow through with a well thought out plan. Good luck!

You didn't say what you enjoy doing, or do well at this time. Discover what you can do well and learn how to make money doing that. A college degree without a specific direction, I don't think will help you. If you can do well with something technical, I.E. learning to operate any kind of medical equipment, like X-ray or ultrasound ect .. there is going to be a great demand for such skills as the baby boomers age..

A psychologist can administer tests to determine if you have a learning disability. That may account for some of your flipping around & inability to stay focused, but that's not the only thing stopping you. You need a mentor or a role model. It seems that your parents and/or siblings either didn't or couldn't supervise or guide you to succeed. Some fear failure so much that they never succeed or finish anything. Others, despite learning disabilities, exceed what was expected of them.

success comes from "drive"
Just how "DRIVEN" are you?
I know many PhD that suffer from the doldrums. very bright
but no drive. and they wither away.
I also know high school drop outs , yet because they are driven reach well beyond their goals.
you want something, go out there an get it. if you are lucky enough to have a loving emotionally supporting wife and family.
and you have a real reason to go out in the world TO SUCCEED.
you will succeed. but remember success is not about money, but satisfaction. gool luck
